American Writers for Children Before 1900
Part of the Dictionary of Literary Biography series published by Gale, this volume offers the career biography, list of the author's works and a bibliography of critical sources. Arranged by topic, period or genre, you may access a particular author by checking the blue paperback Index to Contemporary Authors or any volume of the actual series. An introductory essay frames the time period or the genre in which the author writes. Each entry is written by a noted scholar and ranges from ten to fifteen pages of content. Excerpts of the author's writing, illustrations from the book jackets and photographs of the authors appear regularly. This series is always an excellent starting point in learning about a literary figure.
