Department of Nursing

Welcome to nursing at The University of Scranton. As professionals dedicated to meeting the health care needs of a global society, we challenge students to excel in both academic and clinical settings.

The mission of the Department of Nursing at The University of Scranton is to provide excellence in the education of men and women desiring to become registered professional nurses and for nurses desiring to advance their education at the undergraduate and graduate level. The faculty is committed to enhancing the knowledge, clinical expertise and professional development of students and being responsive to the health care needs of society through the integration of service with learning and the provision of leadership in social justice through health care advocacy.

Our program prides itself on its strong clinical focus, taking advantage of the three hospitals located within blocks of the campus. Nursing majors get hands-on practice in specialized areas such as intensive care, operating room procedures, labor and delivery, and pediatrics as well as experience in case management and community health. The Faculty-Student Research Program offers opportunities to publish and to participate in ongoing research projects.

Students may further their nursing education at The University of Scranton by pursuing a master’s degree in family nurse practitioner, adult health and nurse anesthesia. We offer individual academic assessment and planning to satisfy the adult learner's needs in returning to school.
