Since taking over in 2001, he has led the Royals to a 120-69 record (.635). Danzig’s most noteworthy accomplishment, however, came in 2003, when he led the Royals to a Freedom Conference championship and a ‘Sweet 16’ appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament to cap off a 24-win season, Scranton’s most since 1993. He built that championship team around a solid defense that limited opponents to less than 42 percent shooting from the field, which led the Freedom Conference. In 2004-2005, he led the Royals to a 14-game turnaround from the previous year, as Scranton went 20-7, qualified as the number three seed in the Freedom Conference post-season tournament and advanced to semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southern Region tournament. In 2006, despite losing a number of players to injuries, he led Scranton to the Freedom Conference championship, its 20th NCAA tournament appearance, and a 21-7 overall record. In 2007, the Royals went 19-7, including a 10-4 mark in their final season as a member of the Freedom Conference of the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation. The Royals continued their success under Danzig this past year by winning the first-ever championship of the Landmark Conference and earning a Pool B bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III championships. His ascension to his first head coaching position followed a similar path that many in his profession have taken. He got his start as a graduate assistant with the men's basketball program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in education before landing as an assistant at Bucknell University, an NCAA Division I institution. During his 11-year tenure, the Bison posted an overall record of 180-135 (.571) under head coaches Charlie Woollum and Pat Flannery, including seven winning seasons and 20-or-more wins in 1992 (21) and 1993 (23). Bucknell also advanced to the Patriot League championship game four times during Danzig's tenure, losing to Fordham, 70-65, in 1992; Holy Cross, 98-73, in 1993; Navy, 76-75, in 1997; and Lafayette, 67-63, in 1999. His major duties were recruiting, scheduling, scouting and film exchange. He also assisted in the coordination of the Bison summer camp program, community service projects, alumni activities and fund-raising efforts. While an undergraduate at Baker University in Kansas, he was a two-year captain on the men's basketball team and finished his career as the second all-time leading scorer in Wildcat history with 1,732 points. A three-time all-Heart of America Conference selection and a first team all-district pick his senior year, he led the team in scoring and rebounding three times. He was also a four-year letterman on the men's golf team. He is a 1987 graduate of Baker with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. Carl, a native of Overland Park, Kansas, and his wife, Lynette, a certified public accountant, are the parents of three sons: Ross, Ethan and Jackson. The family resides in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. He came to the University in 2001 after a highly successful career as head women’s basketball coach at nearby Lackawanna College, where he led the Lady Falcons to an overall record of 163-40 (.803) during a seven-year span, which included a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 19 Division II title (1995) and a seventh-place national finish (1995). He was also named Region 19 Coach of the Year in 1995 and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) District II Coach of the Year in 2000. His Lady Falcons won 20-or-more games in a season all seven years, including a 22-6 mark and a semifinal berth in the Division II Region 19 tournament this past year. In addition, he coached the Falcons' baseball team to a five-year record of 110-84-2 (.567) after serving as an assistant for three seasons. A 1981 graduate of Riverside High School, Bartoletti played baseball at Lackawanna before matriculating at Robert Morris College in Corapolis, Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a concentration in sports management. In addition to serving an internship with the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bartoletti coached girls basketball at Old Forge High School for three seasons, winning a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District II title and qualifying for the state playoffs the other two years. Mike and his wife, Marylynn, currently reside in Old Forge, Pennsylvania. He will also begin his sixth season as head coach of the Royals' baseball program in 2008.2008-2009 Schedule & Results (6-3 Overall/0-1 Landmark Conference)
