among college students. Psychology of Addictive Behaviors, 19, 184-191.
This study focuses heavily on the correlation between
alcohol consumption and Life Satisfaction in male and female college students.
Both male and female college students with alcohol related problems reported to
have less life satisfaction. However, the study concluded that male college
students who drink moderately have higher life satisfaction, more than those
who abstain from drinking or drink heavily. The study also suggests that the
negative impact of drinking is associated more with females; the social
benefits for males seem to outweigh the drawbacks. This may explain why college
males drink more than college females.
I found this study to be relevant and necessary for my
research proposal. It displays differences in male and female alcohol
consumption and suggests reasons for the differences. For males, I feel as
though alcohol helps reduce anxiety in social situations.
