Pygmalion December 4-7, 2008 |
"The English have no respect for their language, and will not teach their children to speak..." according to the play's preface. In the timeless and oft adapted (The Andy Grffith Show even did an episode entitled "My Fair Ernest T. Bass") classic, Professor Harold Higgins and his friend, Colonel Pickering, test Shaw's hypothesis by wagering that the professor, by refinement of etiquette and speech, can successfully pass off a Cockney flower peddler as a member of high society. Both teacher and pupil learn lessons during the process, with the experiment culminating in a surprise twist ending. The University Players dedicate this production to Dr. John McInerney and wish him all the best in his retirement. |
