Poetry

Brianna L. Noll

As the rain begins
to tap—slowly at first—
the dusty ground,
tiny mushroom clouds
rise feebly into the air;
miniature craters remain.

A long wind sweeps
clean the pock-marked
earth—irons it out—
and the dust wafts
to your notrils;
you inhale the stale scent of thirst.
