Mind Pillar Classes

 

Gentle Yoga (10 points)

— You don’t need to be in perfect physical shape to practice yoga because it is adaptable to everyone’s needs.  This gentle form uses physical postures with the breath to relax the body and calm the mind.  Among its many benefits are muscle toning and increased flexibility.  Wear comfortable shoes or no shoes.


Freedom From Smoking (80 points)

— Learn about this  successful program for quitting smoking.  Includes free nicotine replacement treatment: patch, lozenges, gum. (7 week class) - Leahy Clinic


Tai Chi (80 points)

— The ancient art of Tai Chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce the stress of today’s busy lifestyles, improve balance and agility and overall health.  Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers or other comfortable shoes.


Enneagram (80 points)

— An Ancient Tool for a Modern Spiritual Journey: Based on the understanding of our spiritual journey that begins with our being  created in God’s image and likeness, and continues with self exploration and insight. (8 week session)


Mindfulness Meditation (40 points)

— Learn how to focus on the present to help calm both body and mind.  Mindfulness techniques can help relieve stress and alleviate conditions such as high blood pressure, chronic pain, sleep problems and gastrointestinal difficulties. (4 week session)


Relaxation 101 (40 points)

— Feeling stressed and need to learn how to relax?  This four week class will teach you multiple ways to unwind, chill out and increase you ability to calm down. (4 week session)


Health Education Classes (10 points)

— One hour presentations on health topics such as Breast Cancer education, Osteoporosis, Prostate Cancer, High Blood Pressure, Heart Health and Exercises for osteoarthritis.  Usually at lunchtime at noon and repeated again at 1pm.


Online Wellness Classes (50 points)

— Blue Cross of NEPA participants can access 5 week classes through the blue cross website such as smoking cessation and stress management. (Learn more)

  Online Body of Knowledge Presentations (10 pts each)

— Cross of NEPA has a series of educational presentations on common health issues online at www.bcnepa.com. The presentations address a variety of major health concerns, such as high blood pressure, acid reflux disease, colon cancer, and other health-related issues. You do not have to be a Blue Cross of NEPA participant to view the presentations. Once completed print out the certificate with your name and topic viewed and attach to the pillar certification form.
