Experience: Dr. Zalon has worked as a staff nurse and clinician in medical-surgical
nursing at several major medical centers in New York City. She has also
taught in a variety of settings: hospital associate degree and diploma
programs, and at the University. Dr. Zalon was the director of a
hospital based program abd a staff development coordinator.
Teaching Responsibilities: Dr. Zalon teaches courses in medical-surgical
nursing, leadership, professional issues and research.
Research: Dr. Zalon's research has been in the area of pain and it s management
with a special focus on the elderly. She is completing a National Institutes
of Health, National Institute of Nursing Research grant "Correlates of
Older Adults' Recovery After Major Surgery (1R15 NR04483-01)" that examines
the recovery of the elderly in the first three months after surgery.
Professional Activities: Dr. Zalon has a long history of professional activism.
She is the President of the Pennsylvania State Nurses
Association, an American
Nurses Association constituent. PSNA is the professional association
and the official voice for registered nurses in Pennsylvania.
Personal Statement: "I love the challenge of helping students to
become nurses and helping registered nurses to find renewal in their careers.
I am committed to strengthening teh profession through activie involvement
in the nurses association. On a light note, I enjoy living in the
country on what once was a famr with my husband, dog and horse.
Research Dr. Zalon's research has been in the area of pain and it s management

funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Nursing
