Description:
This course will provide a background of psychological theory and research dealing with the development and behavior of children from infancy to adolescence. The physical, cognitive, and socioemotional aspects of development, from infancy to adolescence, will be considered.
Objectives: The student will:
(1) Gain factual knowledge of the terminology, methods, and research findings within the field of child development.
(2) Learn the fundamental theories and principles of child development including being able to critique them.
(3) Learn how professionals in the field of child development go about the process of gaining new knowledge.
Examinations and Assignments:
There will be two exams, a midterm and a final exam each worth 30% of your grade.
Assignments include:
(1) A brief research paper due Week 11 that is worth 10% of your grade.
(2) A book report and presentation worth 20% of your grade.
(3) Class participation will be worth 10% of your grade. In order to get the most out of this class, it is expected that you will be an active participant.

Makeup Policy:
Makeup exams must be cleared with the instructor prior to the exam. Missed exams not cleared with instructor will be counted as an F. A make-up will be granted only under extreme circumstances and must be taken as soon as possible after the missed exam.
Grading System:
A = 95-100 B+ = 87-89 C+ =77-79 D+ = 67-69 F = < 60
A- = 90-94 B = 83-86 C = 73-76 D = 60-66
B- = 80-82 C- = 70-72
Cut Policy:
Because a part of your grade is for class participation, it is advised that you attend all classes. If you miss class, you are responsible for the material covered for that day.
