| Years ago a TA, who has now gone on to
better things (Emory),
searched the web for wedding or engagement photos in which the relevant
couple was either were alone or very prominent. The images were
saved
and the heads of each member of a couple were separated from their
respective bodies (at the point hair ended) and from each
other. She found 40 couples and, as you've probably deduced, this process resulted in 80 head pictures (half male and half female - This is a Catholic institution!). Those 80 heads were randomly assigned numbers from 1-80 and we have a sheet of paper for you with 80 random numbers. You'll click each number in random order and the appropriate head will pop-up for you. This random sequence has been worked out for you. You'll rate each photo on 20 characteristics. To avoid any characteristic from being rated at a specific point in the rating process (across raters) each of you will rate these characteristics in your own unique (random) order. That random sequence (20 numbers) has also been worked out for you. You use the same sequence for all the faces that you'll look at. You'll be rating the faces on a number of variables that research indicates are important for selecting a mate. The datasheets for your sessions are in a big folders on the bulletin board. Attached to the datasheets are the random number lists described above. IMPORTANT!! Your observer number will be the same for this study as it was for the last study. If you've forgotten, just go back and check. Take the packet of sheets with your number on it. I think that does it - now read the other instructions, BUT if there still are references to you having to generate lists of random numbers, not to worry. As mentioned above, we've done all of this work for you - aren't we nice?? :) Have fun!
