Couples Study Instructions

Preparation for the Study

  1. Before you begin, you must generate a list of numbers from the random number table you received.
  2. Write down the numbers in the data sheet for trials 1 through 80.
  3. Randomly assign each of the 18 measures to one of the 18 blanks on your data sheet. (Use a random number table.)
Running the Study
  1. Sign up on the "Couples Study" sign up sheet on the bulletin board for three seperate 25 minute intervals.  This study is tiresome, so any two time slots must be at least 30 minutes apart.
  2. During the first two intervals, you must complete the ratings for 30 faces exactly- no more, no less (you can take a bit longer than 25 min, if you need it - this isn't being timed).  During the third and last interval, you must complete the ratings for 20 faces (again, you can take a bit longer than 25 minutes if needed).
  3. When you're ready to run and NOT BEFORE, click on the "Click here to Run" link off of the Methods page.  Remember, DO NOT open this link until you begin the study and only open it in the Lab.
  4. When you open the link, you will see the same list of 80 numbers that Dr. Cannon showed you in lab.  Click on the numbers in the order you should have already determined with a random number table.
  5. You will be rating the measures on a 7 point scale ranging from (1) very strongly agree to (7) very strongly disagree.
