Mice in the Animal Room

Welcome to the Animal Room
A happy inahbitant of cage 1.

Stretching

Mice sleep during the day and are active at night.  Our mice are housed on reversed 12 hour light/dark cycle so that their active period coincides with our active period. We use red lights to see them during their "night time.".  This picture was taken around 9:00 AM,  Just as the white lights in the animal room are going out and the animals are waking up.

Hanging Out

The mice are quite active and enjoy hangining from the tops of their cages.

Exercise

When awake, the mice spend most of their time on their running wheels.  Notice that the mouse on the right is in not blurry at all.  The mouse on the wheel is blurry, not because of the camera, but because the mouse is moving so quickly.  If you look closely you can see two left eyes, but the legs are just a blur.

Home Sweet Home

Every cage of mice has one of these igloos.  Although we can see through them, the mice are unable to, and thus feel safe "hiding" inside.  Note the pin sticking out of the top.

Get Running

The pin on top of the igloos can be used to add a running wheel so the mice can get their exercise.  The mice love runing on the wheels.

Nursing Pup

The pups are still tiny and difficult to capture on film.  In this picture a mother is nursing a pup.

Exploring

This pup is returning to the igloo after briefly steeping out to explore.  The picture has been made black and white in order to filter out the red light.

Wake Up

We caught this pup out of bed (and out of the igloo).  The pups now have fur and have grown quite a bit. They're rapidly approaching the size of the grownups.
