Library Social Networks: Creating Interactive Communities Online
The Weinberg Memorial Library has been successfully using social networking sites to interact with students, faculty and staff for several years now. In fall 2012, the library expanded its efforts to include Instagram, which has been quite popular with users. > Full story

Oxford Reference Online Adds Reference Sources to Our Collection
The reference works published by Oxford University Press have always been a staple of any serious library reference collection. Researchers know that Oxford University Press titles have always been considered a source for high-quality scholarly information. User Survey Feedback Shows Changes Over Time
Assessment of our users' perceptions and feelings (affect) regarding the library facility, services and staff is part of the library's review of its 20-year history. One way in which these affects are measured is through the LibQual+ ™ survey that was administered in 2006, 2009 and 2012. > Full story
Learning Commons Planned for the Library
In celebration of the Weinberg Memorial Library's 20th anniversary, we have been fundraising to implement future improvements within the library. One of the fundraising goals is to create a "Learning Commons" within the new 24-hour room. Learning Commons, sometimes called Information or Knowledge Commons, are collaborative flexible spaces, often including a digital media lab with software, hardware and gadgets for students, faculty and staff to conduct research, create projects, and experiment with cutting edge technology.> Full Story
Library Purchases 2005-2009 SpringerLink eBook Backfile
In November 2012, with the support of the Chemistry and Physics Departments, the Weinberg Memorial Library purchased the entire Springer backfile of eBooks for 2005-2009 – a total of more than 17,000 titles. The records for these books have been loaded into the library's online catalog. They are also accessible through the SpringerLink interface on the library's A to Z list of databases web page. > Full story

Online Tools Give Publishing Information for Scholarly Journals
The proliferation of academic scholarly journals has increased steadily during the past 20 years. Virtually all subject specialties and scholarly societies publish monthly, quarterly or biannual journals that allow faculty members to inform their peers about their research. > Full story
The Junior Fellows Intern Program and Resources for K-12 Educators: Connecting with Opportunities at the Library of Congress
On Oct. 3, 2012, Frank Evina spoke at Wilkes University as one of the featured speakers of the Dr. Robert and Judith Gardner Educational Lecture Series. His lecture was titled "Using Library of Congress Resources in K-12 Classrooms with an Overview of the Junior Fellows Intern Program." > Full story
Zaner-Bloser Penmanship Exhibit Presented at Library
In honor of the 1888 founding of the Zanerian School of Penmanship, Special Collections will present an exhibit titled "Penmen, Artists, and Educators: 125 Years of the Zaner-Bloser Penmanship Company." The exhibit will focus on the company from its beginnings as a penmanship school in Columbus, Ohio, in 1888 through the middle of the 20th century. > Full story
Updates to Virtual Reference @ WML
In the past year, the library's virtual reference services have undergone some major changes for the better. The goal has been to improve the user experience for our students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members who use these services to receive remote assistance directly from a librarian. > Full story
The Heritage Hunt: A Hands-On Library Orientation
In the beginning of the fall semester, the library experimented with a new type of library orientation for incoming freshmen. In the past, freshmen would learn about the library through their freshmen seminar classes. Orientation came in the form of an in-class presentation by one of the librarians and could occur at any time throughout the fall semester. Because the one-credit freshmen seminars have recently been eliminated from the curriculum, the librarians needed a new way to orient all incoming freshmen to the library.  > Full story
Library Awards Prizes for Undergraduate and Graduate Student Research
The Weinberg Memorial Library held its second annual Library Research Prize Reception in May 2012, recognizing the recipients of the 2012 Library Research Prize. Colleen Achatz, a graduate OT student, was honored as the winner in the graduate category for her submission, Part I: "Evolution of Sensory Integration with Children" and Part II: "Jean Ayres' Impact on the Past, Present, and Future of Sensory Integration." Achatz's supporting faculty member was Rita Fleming-Castaldy, Ph.D., in the Occupational Therapy Department. > Full story
