In 1994, the University of Scranton formed
The Friends of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Memorial Library. One
of the greatest challenges for libraries today is to strengthen
both the past and present as we build for the future. The Friends are
library book lovers with a mission! They want to build an endowment
in the name of the Friends, increase collections in the Library,
encourage gifts and bequests and interest others in their work
and in its importance to the future of the University and the local
community of which it is a part.
The Friends support one of the University
of Scranton's greatest resources. completed in 1992, the new Weinberg
Memorial Library houses the University's principal collections.
It is a repository for more than 300,000 volumes as well as the
University Archives Special Collections, media and microforms.
New technologies in the form of an online catalog, automated circulation,
CD-ROM indexes and access to external databases complement the
Weinberg Library's rich print collections. A staff of more than
30 persons serves the needs of students, faculty, staff, alumni,
and friends of the University, as well as the community-at-large.
Members of our Friends group enjoy fellowship
and friendship with those who value the importance of libraries,
and learning and have a special opportunity to help the University
attain its goal of excellence. You are cordially invited to become
a member of Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library. I hope you
will join me in championing the role of the Library in collecting
and preserving books.
