Flash Video

Click on the video icon for a demonstration.

  1. Open Excel and in cell "A1" type the months January, February, March, and April.
  2. Size the cell to fit the contents by placing the mouse pointer between column headings "A" and "B." Double click the left mouse button when the mouse pointer changes to a two-headed arrow.
  3. Click on the menus Data | Text to Columns to open the "Convert Text to Columns Wizard." then complete the following three steps.
  4. Click on the radio button "Delimited" for the Data Type and then click on "Next."
  5. Choose "Space" as the Delimiter. Delimiters are characters used to define the boundaries between plain text.
  6. Click on "Next" to review your selection or "Finish" to divide the text.

Note: 1) The conversion process only allows one column at a time and 2) remember to check that there are an equal number of blank cells to the right of the selected cell (4 words = 4 cells).
