Pasting an Excel chart onto a PowerPoint slide can substantially increase the size of a presentation and endanger the security of an unprotected workbook.

By default, PowerPoint pastes the chart and the entire workbook allowing someone the ability to edit or delete data from the workbook.

  1. A simple tradeoff is to paste the chart as a picture using the Picture option in PowerPoint.
  2. Select and copy [Ctrl]+[C] the Excel chart to the Clipboard.
  3. Select the PowerPoint slide where the chart will be pasted.
  4. On the Home tab choose the command Paste Special.
  5. In the Paste Special dialog box, select Paste As: Picture, and then click OK.
