Microsoft PowerPoint 2003

Animation Effects and Schemes

Among the improvements in PowerPoint 2003 are new animation effects and schemes for presentation enhancement. These include preset animation schemes that can be applied to text, graphics, charts, and other objects to stress a point or add interest to the presentation. Also new is the ability to dray or use pre-designed motion paths that provide a customized path for elements such as text, pictures, or objects to follow.

In this example, insert the slide layout Title, Text, and Content . In the example, a preset animation scheme is selected and then customized to synchronize with multiple texts and object animations .

How to:
  1. Insert > New Slide (Ctrl+M).
  2. Select the Title, Text, and Content layout slide.
  3. Type a title in the Title placeholder.
  4. Type some bullets (One, Two, Three, Four, Five)
  5. Click on the Clip Art icon in the Content placeholder and then insert a clip art of your choosing.
How to apply a preset Animation Scheme and a Custom Animation:

Animation Scheme
  1. Click on the Title placeholder.
  2. From the Task Pane select the menu Slide Design - Animation Schemes.
  3. Apply Pinwheel or another animation to the slide. This usually included the title, bullets, or any other paragraphs on the slide.
Custom Animation
  1. Insert a clip art in the slide if one is not present. Choose Custom Animation from the Task Pane.
  2. Click on the inserted clip art and then choose the menus Add Effect > Emphasis > Teeter. Click on the Play or the Slide Show button to review the effects.

Adding Emphasis on Each Bullet

Animation is often used to stress an object's significance in a presentation. Adding animation effects is no different. Use the Custom Animation menu to add effects for Entrance, Emphasis, and Exit.

How to:
  1. On a new or existing slide, create four bullets containing only one word per bullet. Left click on the menu Custom Animation in the Task Pane.
  2. Place the cursor on the first bullet. When the cursor changes to a four-headed arrow click once, alternatively you have just highlighted the text.
  3. Click on the Add Effect button at the top of the Task Pane. Two custom effects will be added, one for Entrance and the other for Emphasis.
  4. Choose Entrance > Strips and then add the following settings.
    Start: On Click
    Direction: Left Down
    Speed: Very Fast
  5. Select the first bullet. Click on the Add Effect button and select Emphasis > Change Font Color. Add the following settings.
    Start: On Click
Font Color: Use suggested or choose your own
    Speed: Medium. Save your work.
  6. Select the second bullet. Click on the Add Effect button and select Entrance > Strips. Add the following settings.
    Start: With Previous
    Directions: Left Down
Speed: Very Fast. Save your work.

Note: The start settings were changed in Step 4 and 6 to allow the font in the previous bullets to change colors as the new bullets appear. This places emphasis on each preceding bullet. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 with each new bullet added.
