Microsoft FrontPage 2003
More About FrontPage 2003
When creating a web site FrontPage’s New Web feature creates a web folder (My Webs) as a subfolder of “My Documents.” In addition, other folders or directories would include (1) fp-class - which is used to store the Java applets used in creating Hover and Navigation buttons, (2) themes – the directory used to store the graphic files from a theme you selected, and (3) multiple folders (derived, etc) that apply to using the FrontPage server extensions.
These folders are only uploaded to the server if you elect to use any of the FrontPage Themes and the graphics included in those themes. If you elect to use themes, you must upload the ftp-class and derived folders, if used ‘Hover or ‘Navigation’ buttons for a theme page.
Creating a New Web Folder
- Open FrontPage and maximize the window.
- Click on the menu File | Open Web and at the prompt “Do you want to add FrontPage information to” click Yes. FrontPage does not recognize the folder(s) that were created as a web folder and requires adding the additional information.
- After the new directory has been created, click on the menu View and then Folders.
- The Folder List displays the complete contents within the folder WML. Clicking on the (+) plus sign expands each subfolder just as it does in Windows Explorer.
The right side displays the contents of any document that was clicked on and multiple documents can be toggled between.

Understanding the Toolbars
The screen elements in FrontPage are similar to other Microsoft programs. These include the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and the title and menu bar at the top. There is also the Standard and Formatting toolbars that help you create, edit, and format your webpage pages. Above the Taskbar are the tabs Design, Split, Code, and Preview. In Design view, the HTML editor is recording your actions (typing, inserting a table, etc.) and writing your source code. Selecting the Split tab splits the window into two views allowing you to see the code being written as you edit in Design view. The tab Code view displays the raw code allowing you to hand code or edit existing code. The Preview pane allows you to view the work in your web page as if it were in a web browser.
