Microsoft FrontPage 2003
Custom Page Properties
The controls for this tab are designed for advanced users to control system and user designed variables.
Click on the Add button and then enter the name "Refresh." In the box value type 10; URL=http://www.scranton.edu
The variable Refresh can be used to redirect the current page to another page. You would use this variable in a Splash page or to redirect from a page that is no longer existent.
The 10 stands for the number of seconds before the page refreshes to the assigned URL.
Note: A Splash page could be a high-tech promotion or ad page used to promote a web site or product before moving on to the content pages.
Appling Themes or Backgrounds
Themes
FrontPage provides the user with Theme templates for personal use on the web. Please note that these Themes usually require significant web space that is more than your allotted space on the University’s web server.
- To apply a theme, click on the Format menu and then the submenu Themes. When the Apply Theme dialog box opens select a theme from the templates provided. Using Themes creates additional folders that need to be uploaded to the web server, which will be discussed further in the documentation.
Adding a Table
Adding a table in FrontPage is similar to adding one in Word. Click on the icon Insert Table and then drag vertically across to add more than one column and down to add more than one row.
To change the properties of the table right-click on the table to open the Table Properties dialog box. The dialog box allows you to change the table’s alignment, specify the table’s width, increase or decrease cell padding and cell spacing, and assign a border to the table.
Table Alignment
Alignment – sets the position of the table to either default, left, right, or center.
Float – determines how text is to flow around the table.
Controlling Cell Padding
Cell padding – increases the space between the table text and the cell.
Controlling Cell Spacing
Cell spacing – controls the amount of space inserted between the table’s cells.
Defining Table Size
Specify width – controls the size of the table. Pixels are used for fixed widths; Percent is used to control the width of the cell or cells as a percentage of the table’s width.
Adding a Table Border
Border – the thickness of a table’s border increases with each number after zero. A zero border produces no border in a web browser.
Adding a Horizontal Line
- Click on the menu Insert | Horizontal Line
- To format the Horizontal Line open the Horizontal Line Properties dialog box by clicking twice on the line.
- Use the menus provided to change the Width, Height, Line, and Color.
