Systems and Software Resources includes Software Services,Systems Services, Data Processing/Controls, Operations and Web/Internet Services.
Software Services
Software Services develops new systems, maintains existing systems, and provides technical support to customers. Technical support includes assisting customers with system design, as well as, routine trouble-shooting. Software Services supports and enhances the SCT Banner 2000 software system.
The Banner 2000 system encompasses: Alumni/Development, Finance, Accounts Receivable, Student, Human Resources, Voice Response, Recruitment and Admissions, Financial Aid, University Information System, Web for Faculty and Advisors, and many Auxiliary Systems.
The Banner 2000 software utilizes the Oracle Database. Full support of the Oracle database is performed by Software Services. Software Services provides a repository for corporate and academic data with an emphasis on integrity and standardization.
In addition, Software Services expertise includes pc development, web development, and client/server applications.
Systems Services
Systems Services is responsible for hardware acquisition and the installation and support of all hardware, operating systems, and peripheral support maintained on campus. In addition, Systems Services ensures that we are in compliance with licensing agreements. The goal of Systems Services is to provide the University with the most technologically advanced systems to ensure success in a highly competitive market.
Data Processing/Controls
Data Processing/Controls is responsible for running reports utilized by the various offices throughout the University. Quality control checks are performed by use of a maintenance log of all reports which leave the Data Processing/Controls office. Regularly scheduled program runs are monitored and the proper individual(s) is notified when there are problems. Test scanning service is available to all faculty. The Data Processing/Controls area assists with data entry as needed for any office on campus.
Operations Area
The Operations area is responsible for the continuous operation of all systems and peripheral equipment. This includes printers, tape drives and all mainframe computers. All equipment is monitored to ensure they are working properly. Print queues are managed to ensure that print jobs are run properly. Backups are performed on all systems and verified for accuracy. .
Web design and maintenance services are available for faculty, staff and students at The University of Scranton.
