INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Internship opportunities in the field of Operations Management (OM)
are available for those students who qualify. The main goal of an
internship in OM is to provide the student with an opportunity to
apply what he/she has learned in the classroom to situations
encountered in manufacturing or service organizations. The ideal
internship would allow the student to complete a project which
makes a contribution to the organization above and beyond
participating in the daily activities of the firm. This project
should be conceptualized by the student, in consultation with the
intern supervisor at the firm and the faculty internship adviser
(not necessarily the coordinator), early on in the internship
period. Potential areas for internship opportunities include, but
are not limited to, production planning, scheduling, materials
management and purchasing, inventory procedures, job costing,
		forecasting, and quality control.
The student must apply for approval of the project prior to the
start of the internship according to the procedures outlined in the
OM Internship Handbook. During the course of the internship, the
student will be required to submit a quarterly report on the
progress of the project (mid-semester) and a detailed final report
to the faculty internship adviser. In addition to being evaluated
by the faculty internship adviser, the student's performance will
be evaluated by the internship supervisor at the firm at least
twice, preferably in the middle and at the end of the internship
period. In addition, the student will be given the opportunity to
complete a self-evaluation of the internship experience.
Internships generally involve a total of 200 hours of on the job
managerial experience. Compensation may or may not be provided, as
		decided by the sponsoring organization.
