Dr. Midori Yamanouchi Rynn

Dr. Midori Yamanouchi Rynn is professor of sociology/criminal justice (1975-Present). She received a B.A. in History and Government, minor in Philosophy, from Sophia University, a Jesuit university in Tokyo, Japan. She has an M.A. from Michigan State University in History, and an M.A.L.S. from the University of M ichigan. She holds a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary Social Science (Anthropology, Sociology, and History) from Michigan State University.

Dr. Yamanouchi Rynn regularly teaches Cultural Anthropology, Social Psychology, American Minority Groups, Cultures and Peoples of East Asia, Business and Society, Aging Around the World, and other sociology and anthropology courses. She was the moderator of Alpha Kappa Delta, international sociology honor society. Her main focus for teaching is to make a dif ference to those whom she can reach, and to help the student to get where she/he wishes to reach by emphasizing his/her intellectual development. She is the first recipient of the Professor of the Year Award, voted by the graduating seniors of Dexter Hanley College.

 She has published internationally in book, magazine and journal articles and is a past editor of Sociological Viewpoints and currently managing editor of the Comparative Civilizations Review, and also serve s on other academic journals' editorial boards. She has been a regular reviewer for Choice magazine of the American Library Association. A frequent presenter at professional organizations' conferences, she has been active in such organizations, e.g., past president of the Pennsylvania Sociological Society; and recipient of its 1987 Distinguished Sociologist Award.  She currently serves as officer and executive board member of the International Society for the Comparative Stu dy of Civilizations, and others. She has been a Delegate at the United Nations, NGO, representing the International Organization for Unification of Terminological Neologisms, which honored her with the Award for Distinguished Contribution, 2000.

Having served as an R&D executive for a major corporation in New York, Dr. Yamanouchi Rynn has been an advisor/interpreter at top-level negotiation sessions in New York, London, and Tokyo for multinational corporations. She is called upon a s an expert in consumer and cross-cultural marketing, American-Japanese business relations, and Japan in general.

Dr. Yamanouchi Rynn is a member of the President's Council of Cedar Crest College, the Board of Trustees of Lackawanna Junior College, and Tokyo Kasei University. She is also Advisory Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of Lacawac Sanctuary, a local educational and research facility. She serves on boards of directors of several civic organizations as well.
