Cura Personalis Program

Philosophy
The Cura Personalis community is rooted in the Ignatian tradition of “Men and Women for others” and “Cura Personalis” or care of the whole person. Cura Personalis is for individuals who possess openness to personal growth and challenges. This program will create an environment that fosters companionship, a strong sense of community, personal authenticity and a strengthening of leadership. The C.P. community will promote global consciousness, social justice, faith strengthening, and a heart for service. This will occur through interactive and collaborative programming initiatives done throughout the year with Campus Ministry, the Center for Social Action and Initiatives, the faculty and other interested parties. This unique opportunity will allow students to experience the richness of our Ignatian heritage and to grow socially, spiritually and intellectually.

Goals

• To establish an environment where students can live out their faith in the service of others and promotion of social justice
• To create a collaborative link between the Student Affairs division and Campus Ministry in order to strengthen our University’s Mission.
• To build a strong sense of community within our University family
• To educate students in Ignatian ideals and way of life through interactive out of the classroom educational opportunities
• To create a community which works for justice locally, domestically and globally
• To provide opportunities for reflection and sharing within a communal environment
• To develop leadership skills in participants by providing opportunities for leadership development and personal growth

Student Expectations

• Attend programs geared toward service, faith and justice throughout the year
• Organize or assist in developing and/or presenting programs for their peers within sub groups
• Attend monthly reflection sessions in order to communicate with the rest of the community and to reflect on their own lives, spiritually, intellectually and socially.
• Attend a dinner for the whole community once a semester
• Participate in retreats and other Campus Ministry offerings throughout the year

Additional Costs
Their are no additional costs to students of The Cura Personalis Program. Programs are funded by standard activities fees.

Logistics

• McCourt Hall is a newly renovated, smaller freshman hall (48 beds) that has a suitably sized lounge.
• Students will be assigned to groups or committees. Each committee will be headed by a Resident Assistant. The committee titles are as follows: service, faith and justice. Initially, the RA assigned to the committee will be responsible for planning programs based on their theme. As the year continues, each resident will have the opportunity to plan programs based on the theme of their group. This is intended to empower residents to learn more about each theme and to improve their leadership skills.
