University of Scranton Governance Review

University of Scranton Governance Review

A "process of consultation, communication, and decision making that produces institutional policies," governance plays an important role in the operations of the University of Scranton. Following the University's 1998 accreditation self study for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, a Governance Committee was formed to address issues and concerns related to governance. In 2002, changes were made to improve the governance structure. These changes were endorsed by the University's Board of Trustees, and the Board asked the University community to review its newly-adopted structure in the 2005-2006 academic year.

The assessment was conducted by the University's Planning, Assessment & Institutional Research Office, and its results are described in the 2006 report Governance: Assessment of University of Scranton Governance Committee Reforms, 1999-2002. The report was shared with the University community in fall 2006.

In order to begin to consider ways in which some of the community concerns identified in the governance assessment can be addressed, the President of the University formed a Governance Subcommittee of the Administrators' Conference. Based upon its review of the University assessment and best practices in contemporary college and university governance, This committee has prepared a proposal for specific revisions to the University's governance structure and processes.

During the spring 2007 semester, the University community is asked to review this proposal. Feedback on the proposal can be emailed to:
