The University
will embrace technology as a means of enhancing the effectiveness of operations
and as an integral support for the scholarship and learning that are
fundamental to its nature as a university.

I.

Goal
The University will develop and
maintain state-of-the-art technology infrastructure and resources that are
fully capable of supporting its instructional, research and administrative
goals.
Objectives
- Benchmark the University's technology
infrastructure, resources staffing against other higher education and corporate
institutions to identify and evaluate strengths and deficiencies. See
Financial Responsibility Goal I, Objective A.
- Incorporate benchmarking data into current and
future programs to upgrade and add to the Universitys technological
resources and infrastructure in support of instructional, research and
administrative goals.
- In light of benchmarking results, recruit, train
and retain competent information technology staff that is adequate to support
instructional, research and administrative goals. See Financial
Responsibility Goal V, Objective C.
- Improve overall student and other services by using
technology to reduce time and space constraints, while ensuring the security
and confidentiality of information. See Enrollment Management Goal
IV, Objective B.
- Provide adequate resources and training to assist
staff in their efforts to improve general operations and instructional support
through technology. See Financial Responsibility Goal V, Objective C
and Enrollment Management Goal V, Objective A.
- Strengthen the use of technology, e.g. World Wide
Web, as a tool for recruitment and marketing. See Enrollment
Management Goal III, Objective A, and Public Image Goal I, Objective B.

emerging technology that could improve instruction or operations.

Goal
The University will encourage and support the use of
technology by faculty as a pedagogical tool to increase active student
learning. See Faculty Goal II.
Objectives
- Assess the present use and future potential to use
technology for instruction and course delivery in order to identify facility,
resource, training and support needs.
- In light of assessment results, increase the
capacity for facilities to accommodate technology in instruction.
- In light of assessment results, implement adequate
training, resources and incentives to support faculty with technologically
enhanced methods of teaching and course delivery, for example multimedia,
web-based instruction and distance learning. See Faculty Goal II,
Objective G.

Goal
The University will ensure that its students develop
appropriate technological skills.
Objectives
- Assess and enhance the computer/information
literacy component of the general education curriculum to ensure that students
are achieving at least basic competence in computer usage and in electronic
information gathering and research.
- Support the development of applicable
technology-related skills within majors and other programs.
- ncourage the development of new
technology-intensive programs, e.g. Telecommunications, Instructional
Technology. See Public Image Goal II, Objective D, Faculty Goal II,
Objective F, and Enrollment Management Goal III, Objective D.

Goal
The University will strengthen the technological
capabilities of the library.
Objectives
- Ensure that the library strengthens technological
resources in light of both benchmarking data gathered in Goal I, Objective A
and emerging information technology,
- Acquire additional subscriptions to electronic
resources, such as full text journals and abstract databases, through consortia
agreements where possible and without neglecting traditional collections.
- Support emerging electronic courseware development
with electronic access all course-related materials.
- Encourage faculty, staff and students to engage in
electronic scholarly publishing on this campus and in conjunction with such
efforts nationally.
