Occupational Therapy Department News and Events Project Guadalajara 2007
Dr. Morgan and Dr. Reinson recently traveled to Mexico as part of the research team for Project Guadalajara. Since 2004, The University of Scranton’s Physical and Occupational Therapy Departments have been visiting this country and building strong relationships with CIRIAC, a private, non-profit civic organization whose mission is to provide education, rehabilitation and vocational services for individuals with cerebral palsy and with UNIVA, a local university in Guadalajara. This year fifteen occupational therapy students participated in Project Guadalajara. During their stay in Mexico, the students and the therapist attended classes at UNIVA, provided services to the pediatric clients at CIRIAC, and visited rehabilitation facilities as well as a marginalized community on the outskirts of Guadalajara called Lomas de la Primavera. The students gained appreciation of the local flavor of Guadalajara; they stayed with local host families and learned to get around the busy city by using public bus transportation system. Students even found time for shopping, site-seeing and recreation! Plans for Project Guadalajara 2008 are underway; once again students from Physical and Occupational Therapy will actively pursue their college mission. They will continue to cultivate the international relationship that is thriving between the University of Scranton and UNIVA, as well as our relationship with CIRIAC.
