Department Enrolls Nearly 1,500 Students
in Fall Courses

     During the current fall semester, 1,480 students have enrolled in courses offered in the Department of History.  Of that number, 1,187 are enrolled in History and Geography courses, while an additional 293 students are taking art, art history and music history courses.
     The Department continues to offer courses of choice for students seeking to complete their General Education requirements.

Two Faculty Searches Underway

     Two search committees in the Department are currently receiving applications for two faculty positions to begin service in August, 2009.  
     The committee chaired by Dr. Roy Domenico is reviewing applicants for a position in World History/Asian History. Dr. Robert Shaffern’s committee is examining applications for the position in Modern European History.
     Both positions will be at the Assistant Professor level.

Part-Time Faculty Contribute

   The History Department benefits from the valuable contributions of a loyal cadre to adjunct faculty members, many of whom have taught their specialties for several years. During the fall semester, the following adjunct faculty are offering courses:

Fair Offers Information
on Department Majors

     On October 29, the annual Major Fair will give freshmen an opportunity to learn more about majors in History and International Studies. Faculty members will be on hand to answer questions and to hand out literature on the two majors offered through the Department. The event runs from 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the DeNaples Ballroom on the 4th floor. Undeclared freshmen students are encouraged to attend.

Dr. Shaffern on Sabbatical Leave This Fall

Dr. Robert Shaffern, Professor of History, is on sabbatical leave this semester continuing his research on indulgences. Dr. Shaffern is continuing his service as director of the graduate program in History and as chair of the search committee for Modern European History.
