Health Insurance

All health services offered on campus are covered by University fees. However, care by community providers such as laboratory, x-ray, private physicians/specialists in the community, hospital emergency department visits or hospital admission are subject to private payment or insurance coverage. It is very important that all students be covered by adequate health insurance and be knowledgeable about accessing that coverage. Expenses associated with unexpected serious illness or injury can have a great impact on college financial plans if health insurance coverage is absent or inadequate.

The University has selected a plan underwritten by UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company (serviced by First Risk Advisors, Inc.). All of the hospitals in Scranton and many of the area physicians are participating providers. This is a voluntary plan available to all full time University undergraduate students (taking 9 or more credit hours) and graduate students (taking 3 or more credit hours). Information and enrollment forms are available from First Risk Advisors, Inc. at www.firststudent.com.
