Conditional Admission Agreement (CAP)

The University of Scranton and the University of Delaware English Language Institute (UD-ELI) have created a bridge program to ease the transition for international students from pursuing English as a second language study to enrolling in either a full-time undergraduate or graduate academic program.

Criteria for Students Referred to CAP by the UD-ELI

  • Any student who has been admitted to or is currently attending the UD-ELI can apply for conditional acceptance (CAP) to the University of Scranton.

  • A UD-ELI student must meet and complete all admission requirements with the exception of the English language proficiency / TOEFL score requirement to be conditionally admitted to the University of Scranton undergraduate program. Admission to the University of Scranton undergraduate program will be determined solely by the University of Scranton. The UD-ELI agrees to assist students in applying for conditional admission to The University of Scranton.

  •  Any students wishing to apply for conditional admission for graduate programs at the University of Scranton must meet and complete all admissions requirements with the exception of the English language proficiency / TOEFL score requirement and, GMAT score requirement if the applicant is applying to the MBA Program.  Additionally, some graduate programs require a personal interview.

  • A UD-ELI student should be either newly admitted or currently enrolled on a full-time basis and in compliance with all ICE rules and regulations in order to be considered for conditional admission to the University of Scranton.

  • A student who has been conditionally admitted to the University of Scranton and satisfactorily completes the UD-ELI’s Level VI English for Academic Purposes Track with grades of B or higher will be waived the TOEFL requirement and can officially begin the undergraduate program at The University of Scranton.

Criteria for Students Referred to CAP by the University of Scranton

  •  The University of Scranton will collect all required undergraduate application documentation from students. Students who are academically admissible to enroll in a degree program at the University of Scranton but lack the English language proficiency / TOEFL score will be referred to the UD-ELI.

  • The University of Scranton will provide a letter of conditional admission to these students, copying the UD-ELI. UD-ELI will then contact the student to complete the UD-ELI application process.

  • Admission to the UD-ELI program will be determined solely by the UD-ELI. Once this decision has been made, UD-ELI will issue a conditional admission I-20 form, indicating that the student will begin an undergraduate program in (area of study) at the University of Scranton upon completion of his ELI studies’ and express mail the I-20 form and welcome package (including a copy of the CAP acceptance letter from the University of Scranton) directly to the student.

  • Once a student completes Level VI English for Academic Purposes Track of the UD-ELI program and meets the conditional admission requirements listed above, the UD-ELI will notify both the student and the University of Scranton in writing, and release the student’s SEVIS record to the University of Scranton.
