Master's Degree in Human Resources Administration

The University of Scranton's master of science degree in Human Resources Administration prepares students for fulfilling careers in three specializations:  organizational leadership, human resources and human resource development.  Our Master's program is well-suited for individuals in various career situations. You may be about to enter a leadership position in human resources; or you may already be in management, but lack the formal training or credentials needed to advance; or you may simply work in one of a number of human resource-related positions. In every case, our active learning environment helps you acquire knowledge and expertise, gain practical skills and enjoy personal growth to ensure a satisfying career.

Program Specializations

Organizational Leadership
This specialization prepares you to enter or advance in leadership positions in various public and private organizations.  You will learn or refine administrative and supervisory skills that will help you to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of departments or organizations.

Human Resources
This specialization prepares you to work as a human resources generalist, planning for and coordinating various personnel services and functions in diverse organizational settings. Your tasks may involve assessing personnel needs, recruiting and selecting new employees, developing discipline and grievance-handling procedures, ensuring an organization's compliance with equal opportunity and other governmental regulations, implementing programs in health and safety, or assisting employees with personal problems that may influence their work performance.

Human Resource Development
This specialization prepares you to handle change management at the individual, group, or organizational level.  Working in a staff or consultative capacity, you may do performance analysis; design, implement and evaluate training programs; facilitate career and succession planning; conduct organizational assessments and interventions; and contribute to strategic human resource planning.

Combined Bachelor's/Masters Degree

Outstanding undergraduate students at The University of Scranton can enroll in a special program to obtain both their bachelor's and master's degrees in Human Resources Administration within a five-year period.

Professional Affiliations and Certification

The University maintains a student chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), which all students are encouraged to join.  Graduates of our master's degree program meet all the requirements for becoming a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).  You will be encouraged to take the appropriate certification examination near the completion of your studies.
