Master's Degree in Human Resources Administration
The University of Scranton's master of science degree in
Human Resources
Administration prepares students for fulfilling careers in three
specializations: organizational leadership, human resources and human
resource development. Our Master's program is well-suited for individuals
in various career situations. You may be about to enter a leadership position
in human resources; or you may already be in management, but lack the formal
training or credentials needed to advance; or you may simply work in one of a
number of human resource-related positions. In every case, our active learning
environment helps you acquire knowledge and expertise, gain practical skills
and enjoy personal growth to ensure a satisfying career.

Organizational
Leadership
This specialization prepares you to enter or advance in leadership positions in
various public and private organizations. You will learn or refine
administrative and supervisory skills that will help you to increase the
effectiveness and efficiency of departments or organizations.
Human Resources
This specialization prepares you to work as a human resources generalist,
planning for and coordinating various personnel services and functions in
diverse organizational settings. Your tasks may involve assessing personnel
needs, recruiting and selecting new employees, developing discipline and
grievance-handling procedures, ensuring an organization's compliance with equal
opportunity and other governmental regulations, implementing programs in health
and safety, or assisting employees with personal problems that may influence
their work performance.
Human Resource Development
This specialization prepares you to handle change management at the individual,
group, or organizational level. Working in a staff or consultative
capacity, you may do performance analysis; design, implement and evaluate
training programs; facilitate career and succession planning; conduct
organizational assessments and interventions; and contribute to strategic human
resource planning.
Combined Bachelor's/Masters
Degree
Outstanding undergraduate students at The University of Scranton can enroll in
a special program to obtain both their bachelor's and master's degrees in Human
Resources Administration within a five-year period.
Professional Affiliations and
Certification
The University maintains a
student chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), which all
students are encouraged to join. Graduates of our master's degree program
meet all the requirements for becoming a Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). You will be encouraged
to take the appropriate certification examination near the completion of your
studies.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree
with 2.75 GPA (4.0 scale)
Interview with Program Director
International students should have a 575 (paper based test) or 232 (computer
based test) TOEFL score.
The Human Resource program
usually accepts only those applicants who have at least one year of
professional work experience in a related field. Individuals accepted with
limited work experience may be required to enroll in an internship to gain
practical experience. These individuals should discuss their employment
possibilities with the program director during their interview. Applicants
should be prepared to discuss their career goals with the program director
during a personal interview and to discuss how they see the curriculum
supporting their longer-term goals.

Complete an internship (often required for students with minimal
experience)
Scheduling
Courses are offered from 4:30 p.m.-7:10 p.m., and 7:20 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. Monday
through Thursday. Each course meets one night per week in the Fall and Spring
semesters and twice weekly during Intersession and the Summer sessions.
Full-time students typically attend classes two or three nights per week;
part-time students, one or two nights a week. New students are not accepted for
Intersession or for Summer sessions. Applicants must be accepted by The
Graduate School before starting courses. The courses in Organizational
Leadership and Human Resources are generally taken first.
