John Meredith Hill, Professor of English and Director of the University Reading Series, has an M.A. from Illinois and an M.F.A. from Iowa. He offers courses on the writing of poetry, modern poetry, colonial and postcolonial literature, and related special topics in addition to teaching several general education courses. His published work (poetry and fiction) has appeared in the American Literary Review, the Antioch Review, The Dickinson Review, Zone 3, and other journals, and he has won fellowships, grants, and residencies from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Ragdale Foundation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the University of Scranton. His cultural heroes include Matthew Arnold, Elizabeth Bishop, Daffy Duck, and Matisse.
