Acknowledgments

From its inception, this project has involved many people.  Between 2001, when we first discussed it, and 2005, when we completed this version, members of Sigma Tau Delta have discussed what the Handbook should contain, and in many cases commented, “I wish I’d had one when I was beginning.”  Many students contributed even more actively through written contributions.  Departmental faculty, too, contributed, writing self-descriptions for the section on Department Faculty and Staff. Thanks to you all, and especially to Mary Engel, in whose Academic Advising Center I learned the value of a program guide, to Jody DeRitter, for contributing so generously and with such good humor to the content of the Handbook, to Michael Friedman, for catching some real bloopers in the section on Academics, and to Maria Landis and Lynn Springer, without whose help this book would still be in my computer.

Professor, Department of English
