Biology

Assistant Professor in Neuroscience Program. We are especially interested in applicants with specializations that include but are not limited to Neuroethology or evolutionary approaches to neurosciences. Applicants should be able to contribute to the Neuroscience Research Methods Lecture and Laboratory and to the biology department’s core courses and will have the opportunity to develop upper level courses in their specialty. A research program that involves mentorship of undergraduates is also expected. University facilities support teaching and research involving small animals. The Biology Department and Neuroscience Program will be housed in a new state-of-the-art unified science center as of Fall 2011. Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry and/or Biochemistry. The successful candidate will possess a doctorate in the appropriate area of expertise.    Library

Cataloging/Metadata Librarian:  The University of Scranton seeks a Cataloging/Metadata Librarian who is responsible for maintaining the library’s online catalog and supervising 2 full-time copy catalogers.  Responsibilities include: cataloging materials in all subjects, formats and languages; exploring and integrating appropriate emerging technologies into cataloging practices; managing authority control and maintaining close relationships with all library functions including:  circulation, reference, acquisitions, special collections and systems.  Takes part in the planning, implementation and configuration of the ILS as it pertains to cataloging functions and public display.  Participates in the library’s information literacy instruction program.

Qualifications:  ALA-accredited MLS.  Experience includes two years cataloging experience, including non-book cataloging; experience with an integrated library system; experience with using MODS/METS (Metadata Object Description Scheme/Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard) and/or applying Western States Best Practices.  Preferred experience includes familiarity with the Innovative Interfaces Millennium system; working knowledge of at least one European language, and familiarity with RDA and FRBR sufficient to guide staff in transitioning to these new standards.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:  Working knowledge of OCLC and WorldCat.  Familiarity with MARC format and cataloging rules including:  AACR2, LCSH, LCCS, and MARC21 formats for bibliographic holdings and authority control.  Familiarity with emerging trends in library systems and services.  Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheets, databases , and word processing applications in a Windows environment.  Strong collegial interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with an interest in professional development. Visual acuity and ability to physically manage inventory and shelf reading projects.   The successful candidate must be detailed oriented and able to work both independently and collaboratively. 

Twelve-month faculty appointment tenure track.  Hours:  Monday—Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  A second masters’ degree in a subject is required for tenure.  Expected start date is June 1, 2010.

Nursing

Assistant Professor of Nursing. The Department of Nursing at The University of Scranton invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position for fall 2010. We are seeking an outstanding candidate with expertise in maternal child and/or pediatric nursing. This position involves teaching undergraduate students in small classes, clinical supervision in small groups, scholarship and service.    The successful candidate must have a clinical Masters Degree in Nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program.  Master’s degree with pediatric or maternal child specialization and national certification preferred.  An earned doctorate in nursing is preferred.   Philosophy

Three Assistant Professor positions. Ph.D. in philosophy required by time of appointment. AOS: Open. AOC: Open. The department has interests in Philosophy of Science; Medieval/Aquinas/Catholic Philosophical Tradition; Aesthetics; ability to offer writing-intensive courses in Rhetoric or Logic. The department requires a strong background in the history of western philosophy and evidence of outstanding teaching. Candidate must also have a

strong commitment to teaching core curriculum philosophy courses, specifically Introduction to Philosophy and Ethics. Interest in teaching Business Ethics is a plus.  Theology/Religious Studies

Two Assistant Professors positions. The first position is in Scripture with a specialization in Old Testament. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D., be committed to undergraduate teaching, and have both a capacity and interest in pursuing research in their field. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate survey courses in Christian Scripture, and upper level and graduate courses in Old Testament. The department would especially

welcome applicants with the ability to teach in another area of theology. Application due by November 1, 2009. Attn: Brigid Curtin Frein, Ph.D. Preliminary interviews of selected applicants will be conducted at the SBL meeting in New Orleans, November 21-24. The second position is in Moral Theology, with expertise in Catholic Social thought. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D., be committed to undergraduate teaching, and have

both a capacity and interest in pursuing research in their field. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate survey courses in Christian theology, and upper level and graduate courses in moral theology. The department would especially welcome applicants with the ability to teach in another area such as reformation and/or Latin American theology. Application due by October 20, 2009. Education

Three Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor in Learning, Teaching & Curriculum. The position responsibilities include teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will (a) have experience in a research-focused university teacher preparation program; (b) have evidence of quality teaching. In addition, the successful candidate must be prepared to carry out a research agenda and to disseminate results in scholarly publications and conferences. Qualifications: The position requires: (a) an earned doctorate or ABD; (b) a record of research, teaching and professional service commensurate with the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor.   Occupational Therapy

Assistant Professor: Responsibilities include teaching and research in areas of expertise in an accredited 5 year Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program and University, department, and community service. Qualifications: An earned, non-clinical doctorate in OT or a related field. Candidates who have made significant progress toward the completion of the doctorate and a record of teaching effectiveness will be considered.  Accounting

Assistant Professor in Taxation. Duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, scholarly research activities meeting AACSB related criteria, and service. The primary teaching responsibilities will be in Taxation. The faculty member will also be responsible for administering the University’s VITA program. The qualifications include an appropriate earned doctorate or ABD progressing towards completion. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.  Assistant Professor in Accounting Information Systems. Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, scholarly research activities meeting AACSB-related criteria, and service. Development

Development Operations Specialist-R000000951; Classification- Non-exempt, Grade 5; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.;  Hiring Range $10.49-$13.38 per hour. Updates and maintains data in the Banner Advancement module for donor, alumni, parent, friend, corporation and foundation records.  Assists with review and development of improved and automated processes .  Performs tests on new Banner releases and system upgrades.  Processes pledges and gifts in Banner from a variety of sources ensuring designation in accordance with donor’s wishes.  Performs imaging and indexing of documents to ensure accuracy of links to donors.  High school diploma.  Two years experience in computer data entry and proficiency in the use of personal computers and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, mail merge, and web browsers.  Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and strong analytical skills with attention to detail.  Self-starter with a commitment to the mission of The University of Scranton; must exhibit professionalism and confidentiality.  Applications accepted until the position is filled.             

 Human Resources

Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)/Compensation Specialist – R000000933; Classification – Professional.  HRIS: Primary HRIS contact for Human Resources; writes, maintains and supports reports for data requests; develops HR user protocols and documentation; acts as liaison between HR and other University departments for HRIS System issues, upgrades, testing and other projects.  Compensation: Processes, records and reports employee compensation related actions in accordance with program guidelines and budget approvals; completes exempt and non-exempt salary surveys and compiles survey data for analysis; analyzes and makes recommendations on position reclassifications as appropriate; assists in developing compensation related employee communication materials;  coordinates the University annual United Way fund campaign; participates in planning and delivery of new hire orientation.  Requires a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience. Professional level Human Resources experience with an emphasis on compensation, including the responsibility for maintaining an HRIS preferred.  Proficient knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and HRIS a plus.  

 Information Technology Infrastructure

Assistant Database Administrator - R000000885; Classification- Professional. Troubleshoots database problems, performance tuning; configure, implement and document test environments, log management, threshold monitoring and event notification. Shell scripting as required; install and configure OEM, establishing and maintaining all aspects regarding system security and required patches.  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline is required along with four years experience in database management and application development, and advanced training in database management of Oracle 10g in a UNIX (i.e. LINUX, Solaris) and/or Windows 64 environment. 

 Institutional Research

Research Analyst – R000000952; Classification – Professional. Reports to the Director of Institutional Research, position includes collecting, managing, analyzing, and reporting institutional research data in support of institutional planning and decision-making and/or to improve University programs and services. Planning, designing, and administering centralized surveys and other institutional research activities, including managing information database(s) of survey results; analyzing and summarizing data in order to be disseminated to internal and external audiences using a combination of report writing with graph and chart preparation. Position requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in social sciences; knowledge of research design, statistical analysis, and report writing; proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel, SPSS and software tools used for data extraction, and working in microcomputer, networked, and web-based environments. Additional requirements: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional and technical writing; scrupulous attention to detail; time-management and customer service skills.

Occupational & Physical Therapy

Laboratory Assistant(s)- R000000927; Part time, (2 hrs/week, Thursdays 1:00 – 3:00pm, September through December); Under the direction of a faculty member, assists faculty with laboratory experiences to include equipment set up, laboratory demonstration of Orthopedic Physical Therapy Techniques and monitoring of student performance (including practical examination, execution and evaluation.) A Master’s degree in Physical Therapy and expertise in Orthopedic and Manual Physical Therapy are required. Successful candidate(s) may also be considered for Orthopedic PT 1- PT 713 offered during the Spring 2010 semester.

 Public Relations

University Editor- R000000953; Classification-Professional;  The University Editor serves as Editor of The Scranton Journal (alumni magazine), Royal News (e-mail newsletter) the Undergraduate Catalog, and other official periodicals produced by Public Relations.  The Editor also provides writing, editing and occasional graphic design.  A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, English, or related field is required.  Equivalent work experience may be considered depending on candidate’s portfolio.  In addition, three years of experience in Public Relations or related field, with emphasis on creative, magazine writing, editing and project management is required.

Public Safety

(2) Public Safety Officers- R000000914; Classification-Grade 5, Hiring Range $10.49/hr to $ 13.38/hr, add $.53/hr with Act 120. Nine month positions (late August through late May).  Shift worked various hours: 8:00pm to 4:00 am.  Ensures the safety of students, faculty and staff; responds to various emergencies; conducts preliminary investigations following procedures established by the department; inspects vehicles for decal authorizations; issues tickets; patrols the University for evidence of entering and damage; valid PA driver’s license and prior experienced.  Systems and Software Resources

System Administrator-R000000858; Classification-Professional; Installs, configures, maintains and customizes all assigned systems software; Perform system administration functions regarding assigned systems software and electronic mail systems; evaluates and makes recommendations regarding new and current hardware software components; establishes and maintains best practices regarding all aspects regarding systems security and required patches; maintains a current understanding of the latest developments in hardware and software; establishes performance measurement techniques and utilizes that data to fine tune system performance; provides emergency on-call support on a rotating schedule.
