What Do These Programs Do?
The following software has been installed on your computer and is
licensed for your use through the university.
- Ad-aware and Spybot
can eliminate from your computer the annoying detritus that
collects on your computer as a result of Internet surfing.
Both applications are good tools for removing adware and spyware.
- Adobe Reader
is an application that opens files with a pdf extension. Many online
forms from various web sites are in pdf format and require the Adobe Reader.
- CorpTime
is a campus-wide electronic calendaring system. CorpTime is intended to help you
manage your time. It allows you to track your own appointments as well as schedule
meetings and appointments with other CorpTime users.
- CutePDF
allows you to create professional quality PDF
(portable document format) files from almost any printable document.
Send any document (including a mail message) to the CutePDF printer and
save the file for future use.
- Firefox,
like Internet Explorer, is a web browser that provides you with access to the
Internet. Firefox is an alternate web browser and should not be used for accessing
any University applications or forms. It is available on your desktop to
maximize and enhance the Internet experience.
- With GRBackPro
you can make backup copies of your important data. Although it is
originally set to backup your data to a 650MB CD-RW disc you can
customize GRBackPro to backup various sets of data to a CD-RW, Zip or floppy.
- McAfee VirusScan
protects your computer from a plethora of computer viruses. It can
only protect your computer from the newest viruses if you update
the virus definitions (DATs) regularly.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer
is the preferred, supported web browser that should be used to access
University applications and forms (e.g., Banner, UIS).
- Microsoft Office
is a desktop productivity package that provides you with applications
for creating documents (Microsoft Word), slide show presentations
(Microsoft PowerPoint), spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel),
and databases (Microsoft Access).
- PowerTerm
allows you to connect to and use various computer resources on and off
campus. This includes an application for FTP (file transfer protocol).
- Clean Access
is an application that will check certain
security settings on your computer to make sure that your system is
up-to-date with required security patches. It must be used on Microsoft
Windows computers that connect to the wireless network and is most
commonly installed on laptops.
- Thunderbird
is an e-mail client that is used to access your e-mail and Bboard. It can also be
used to subscribe to news and RSS feeds.
