Re-Organization Dinner
August 19, 2001
The Dexter Hanley College Student Government had a re-organization dinner meeting on Sunday, August 19, 2001 at the Radisson at Lackawanna Station Hotel. Kathy Elkins, President, brought the meeting to order at 6:20p.m.
Orientation Aides were requested for
the Dexter Hanley College orientation being held on August 23, 2001, in the
Eagan Auditorium. Leo Lynn, Jerry
Bednash, Beverly O’Hora and Kathy Elkins all volunteered to help out with this
year’s orientation program.
The fall trip has been confirmed for
October 6, 2001, to Lancaster, PA.
Discount tickets for the Sight and Sound Theatre production of Noah’s
Ark will be available for those interested in attending. The trip also includes shopping at the
marketplace in Lancaster and a stop for dinner at a local restaurant. For more information about the trip, please
contact Theresa Sandrowicz at 941-7612.
A tentative agenda for the upcoming
academic year was discussed, and will be prepared at the next meeting on
September 9, 2001. A handout was
distributed with information about the Weinberg Memorial Library from Linda
Neyer and Student Government Applications were given to all to distribute to
potential new members.

Meeting Minutes
September 9, 2001
The Dexter Hanley College Student Government met on Sunday, September 9, 2001 at Brennan Hall Room #314.
Kathy Elkins, President, brought the meeting to order at 4:40p.m.
Attendees: President Kathy Elkins, Treasurer Charlene Brudnicki, Recording Secretary Beverly O’Hora, Betsy
Minello and Elaine Malinowski
Unable to Attend: Vice President Jerry Bednash, Corresponding Secretary Theresa Sandrowicz, Kim Bochicchio, Lili
Houck, Dr. Elizabeth Jacob, Leo Lynn, Nick Mielo, Lynn Paskert, Mary Rowlands, Pearl Torres, Ruth Wanamaker, Dr.

New Business:
Two new members were accepted into the Student Government. John Major and Keri Flynn both expressed their
interest in becoming active in the Dexter Hanley College Student Government. John is a Communications Major and Keri is
Computer Science-Business Major here at the University.
Committees were discussed for the Halloween Party and Christmas Party. Charlene Brudnicki will make candy bags
for the Halloween Party. Dexter Hanley will participate with the University in the “Boo at the Zoo” Halloween activity.
Musical entertainment is needed for the DHC Christmas Party being held on December 1, 2001 at Rossi’s Restaurant. Several
members stated that they will look into various D.J.’s and bands for this event. For Christmas Party gifts, we have a box of
picture frames from last year’s event. It was suggested that John Major prepare a Christmas Poem and they will be inserted
into the picture frames and used as favors for this years’ event. This will utilize the supply of picture frames in storage.
Plans were finalized for the 5K Walk/Run on September 30, at 10:30a.m.at Nay Aug Park. All proceeds for the walk
benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Those participating in the walk are Jerry Bednash, Kathy Elkins, Elaine Malinowski,
Betsy Minello, Beverly O’Hora, John Major and Keri Flynn.
Old Business:
Plans for the fall trip were finalized. The trip will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2001, to Lancaster, PA. The trip
includes a tour of the Amish Village and shopping at the Rockville Square Outlet in Lancaster, PA. There will also be a stop
for dinner at the Plain and Fancy restaurant. For more information about the trip, please contact Theresa Sandrowicz at
941-7612.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, October 15, at 5:00p.m. in Brennan Hall room #314.

The Dexter Hanley College Student Government met on Monday, October 15, 2001 at Brennan Hall Room #314. Kathy Elkins, President, brought the meeting to order at 4:40p.m.

Secretary Beverly O’Hora, Corresponding Secretary Theresa Sandrowicz, Leo Lynn
and Wendy Thomas.

New
Business:
The
minutes from the last meeting were accepted by Jerry Bednash and seconded by
Theresa Sandrowicz. A new member
was accepted into the Student Government. Roseann Morgan expressed interest in
becoming active in the Dexter Hanley College Student Government.
Roseann is a Gerontology Major here at the University.
All in attendance welcomed her to the DHC Student Government.
The DHC Christmas Party plans were finalized. Musical
entertainment has been reserved through Charlene Budd-Brudnicki.
Invitations will be sent out announcing the Christmas Party through our
Corresponding Secretary, Theresa Sandrowicz.
Jerry Bednash is on the Christmas Party Committee and will contact the
restaurant to discuss menu selections and decorations.
Our theme for this year will be “Christmas in America” and we will
coordinate with a red, white and blue color theme.
The Christmas party will be held on December 1, 2001 at Rossi’s
Restaurant, Archbald, PA. Pen sets
and framed poetry by John Major were discussed as Christmas Party gifts.
All in attendance voted to participate in the Toys for Tots program again
this year. Students and guests are
asked to bring in a wrapped toy for a girl or boy to the Christmas Party and Sr.
Adrian and a guest will attend the party and will distribute the gifts to needy
families in the area. The cost for
the Christmas Party remains the same as last year, students $10 and guests $15.
Again this year the student government will
participate in the Family-to-Family Program to benefit needy families in the
area during the Thanksgiving holiday. A
$25 donation will be sent on behalf of the student government for this very
worthy cause.
Plans for our Spring Trip were discussed.
Wendy Thomas suggested a trip to the Baltimore Harbor, MD.
All in attendance agreed this was a good idea instead of our yearly trip
to New York after the terrorist attack on 9/11/01.
Wendy will gather more information about the trip and bring to the next
meeting to discuss further.
Old
Business:
The 5K Walk/Run was held on September 30, at
10:30a.m.at Nay Aug Park. All
proceeds for the walk benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Student Government members who participated in the walk were
Jerry Bednash, Kathy Elkins, Betsy Minello, Beverly O’Hora, and John Major.
The fall bus trip to Lancaster, PA held on Saturday,
October 6, 2001, was a great success. The
trip included a tour of the Amish Village and shopping at the Rockville Square
Outlet. Dinner was held at the

The DHC Halloween Party was held on October 27, at
3:00p.m. at the University. The
children met at the statue by the Weinberg Library and paraded to Campion Hall
to visit the Jesuit Priests. The
children then came back to the 2nd floor cafeteria located in the
Gunster Building for refreshments. Musical
entertainment was provided by Bill Frey Productions, and the children all made
holiday crafts. Face painting was
also provided. Prizes were given to
the children for various costume categories. The group then traveled by bus with the University Student
Government members to attend “Boo at the Zoo” located at Nay Aug Park.
All in attendance really enjoyed this event and members of the University
Campus School who attended would like to be included in future activities.
The Honors Convocation was held on Sunday, October
28, 2001. Kathy Elkins, Nick Mielo
and Beverly O’Hora attended in behalf of the Dexter Hanley College Student
Government. A mass was held in the
Byron at 11:30a.m. and the Dexter Hanley College awards presentation was held in
Brennan Hall 5th floor.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:05p.m.

The Dexter Hanley College Student Government met on November 7, 2001 in Brennan Hall Room #314. Jerry Bednash, Vice-President, brought the meeting to order at 4:35p.m.

will submit an article about the Fall trip to Lancaster, PA, and Bev O’Hora
will report on the children’s Halloween Party/Parade sponsored by the DHC
student government.

The Dexter Hanley College Student Government met on Sunday, January 27, 2002 at Zipay’s Restaurant in Eynon, PA. Dean Adams brought the meeting to order at 5:15p.m..

Plans for our Spring Trip were discussed.
Wendy Thomas presented information for a spring trip to the Baltimore
Harbor, MD. After discussion, it
was decided that the annual spring bus trip to New York would still be held.
Dean Adams stated that DHC is considering Integrated
Marketing with a company called I-Brands. They would specialize in marketing for adult students.
Trustee Day will be held on February 5 & 6, 2002.
Jerry Bednash will attend on February 5, and Kathy Elkins will
participate in the luncheon on February 6.
All student government members were encouraged to attend.
Old
Business:
A committee for the DHC Newsletter is needed.
Members interested in volunteering for this committee, please let us know
at the next scheduled meeting.
Student issues concerning a student lounge, and later
hours for the Wolves Den are still being discussed.
The Java Café is now open until 10:00p.m. to meet students needs.
Another issue is to have vending machines replenished for the evening
students.
Kathy Elkins stated that the alternate meeting dates
for the student government meetings seem to be working well and are
accommodating to most of the student government members.
We will keep the alternate meeting date schedule for the rest of the
semester.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30p.m.
The next meeting will be held on February 10, 2002. Officers will meet at 3:30p.m. in room #332, Brennan Hall. Regular meeting will be held at 4:30p.m. in Brennan Hall room #314.

Plans for the Spring Trip to New York on April
27, 2002, are being finalized. Theresa
Sandrowicz is preparing the announcement and we will offer discounted tickets to
see the Broadway show AIDA. Posters will also be made and distributed throughout
the University campus.
The DHC Newsletter is now being prepared.
Anyone who would like an article included in this semester, please let
John Major know as soon as possible. There
will be an article about Dr. Mary Muscari’s new book release “Not My Kid”
included in this edition of the DHC newsletter.
A Children’s Easter Party
for the children of all DHC students will be held on Saturday, March 23, at
2:00p.m. at the University. There
will be an Easter egg hunt on the greens in front of the Weinberg Memborial
Library, and musical entertainment provided by Bill Frey Productions. Refreshments will be served on the 2nd floor
cafeteria in the Gunster Building.

Business:
Trustee Day was held on February 5 & 6, 2002.
Jerry Bednash attended on February 5, and Kathy Elkins participated in
the luncheon on February 6. All
student government members were encouraged to attend, however, we need to have
more people involved and promote attendance.
After a brief discussion, it was decided that the advertising for this
event needs to be explained to all DHC students about what its’ all about and
encourage students to attend.
Kathy Elkins stated that the alternate meeting dates

The Dexter Hanley College Student Government met on Sunday, April 14, 2002 at Brennan Hall, room #314. Kathy Elkins brought the meeting to order at 4:35p.m.

Business:
The minutes
from the last meeting were accepted by Kathy Elkins and seconded by Dawn Lavelle.
Kathy Elkins stated that attendance at the scheduled
Student Government meetings has been poor.
In order to vote on issues and for our new 2002 officer elections, a
quorum is needed. Kathy stated that
she would take the initiative and instill the bylaws, which state that excessive
absences will result in dismissal from the Student Government.
Kathy stated that we would reschedule our meeting time to 6:30p.m. –
7:30p.m. and keep the meeting date on Sunday for now.
Plans for the Spring Trip to New York on April
27, 2002, are being finalized. Theresa
Sandrowicz stated that all of the tickets to see the Broadway Show AIDA have
been sold! Beverly O’Hora stated
that we have 3 buses reserved through JoJo’s Travelers and they are almost
filled.
Plans for the Graduation Dinner/Dance on Friday, May
17, are being finalized. The menu
was approved by all in attendance. Kathy
stated that gifts for this years graduates are needed.
Everyone in attendance agreed on using the DHC pen sets as gifts for this
year’s event. Kathy also stated
that she would purchase flowers for the graduates.
All rsvp’s for the dinner/dance are being forwarded to Betsy
Minello’s attention. She is also
collecting the names for this year’s faculty award.
Kathy stated that at the next meeting we will discuss
plans for the Fall 2002 Trip and also the Christmas Party for 2002.
Kathy read Mary Colleen Casey’s application to
become a student government member. All
in attendance agreed to accept Mary to the student government.

Old
Business:
The Children’s Easter Party
was held on Saturday, March 23, at 2:00p.m. at the University.
There was a nice response to the party by DHC students and it was also
available for University faculty and staff.
All in attendance agreed to continue to have an Easter Party for the
children of DHC students each year since this year’s event was such a success.
A recommendation for next year’s event is to have an optional donation
of $2 or $3 requested in order to help defray costs.
The DHC Newsletter has been sent.
John Major stated that he is now gathering information for the next
edition, which will be sent out in Fall 2002.
Anyone who would like an article posted in the next newsletter, please
contact John Major. John stated
that in an edition of the Aquinas there was a comment made that the University
Student Government did not want to coordinate any activities with the DHC
Student Government. Several other
student government members stated that they also saw the comment, which was
published in the Aquinas. Dr. Liz
Jacob stated that she would look into it and report back at the next scheduled
meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:25p.m.
The next meeting will be held on May 5, 2002.
