Dr. André Oberlé

Director, CTLE

As the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence I am responsible for the overall operation of the Center. My duties include providing leadership for the Center in supporting teaching and learning at all levels and in all contexts in which instruction and learning occur in the University. With the active support of the Specialists in the Center, I promote faculty enrichment and the provision of instructional support, promote student learning resources and support, and the provision of computer lab services. I am also responsible for the Center’s budget, personnel, and facilities. A very important aspect of my work is to promote communication and interaction across the campus to enhance the instructional mission of the University of Scranton.

I hold a B.A. (Hons.) in Modern Languages and Literatures and an M.A. in German Studies from the University of Toronto (Canada), and a Ph.D. in German Literature from Queen’s University (Canada).

In my research, I have been interested in all aspects of promoting and assessing teaching and learning, curriculum design and evaluation, teacher education and professional development for university teachers. In the past I have done considerable work in the area of the application and pedagogy of technology in learning, and the creation and management of effective online learning environments.
