Case Professor
of the Year Award

The University of Scranton named Dr. Oliver Morgan its 2008 CASE Professor of the Year in recognition of his outstanding performance as a member of the University’s faculty.
Dr. Morgan has been a member of the Counseling and Human Services faculty for 18 years. He is a graduate of Boston University with a doctoral degree in Pastoral Psychotherapy. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa (1972, Fordham University). He works with undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of courses including marital & family therapy, addiction studies, and counseling and spirituality.
He is the editor of five books and over 30 articles and book chapters. His two-volume set, Examining the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (with Dr. Anthony Cernera) is the best seller of Sacred Heart University Press. Two other books, Addiction and Spirituality: A Multidisciplinary Approach (1999) and Counseling and Spirituality: Views from the Profession (2007) have been used in a variety of training settings. Family Interventions with Substance Abuse: Current Best Practices (2008) was just released.
Dr. Morgan has been dedicated to examining and improving the challenging lifestyles of undergraduate students at his and other universities. He has been a moving force in both HIV/AIDS education and substance abuse prevention at the University of Scranton. He has served as a consultant to other institutions in these areas.
Currently, Dr. Morgan serves as Chair of the Department of Counseling and Human Services. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist and Approved Supervisor in family therapy. In 2002 he was selected as the second Leahy Faculty Fellow of the J. A. Panuska College of Professional Studies at the University of Scranton.

Professors awarded by individual schools are then eligible for further recognition by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) at the state and national levels.
CASE began the Professor of the Year competition in 1981 to recognize faculty members for extraordinary commitment to undergraduate teaching, for contributions to the lives and careers of students, and for service to their institutions and the teaching profession. CASE began state competitions in 1985.
CASE is an international association of colleges and universities, and independent elementary and secondary schools.
