Registration Planning Guide

You MUST complete your registration form prior to meeting with an advisor. It is okay if we need to make changes to the form. It is a work in progress.

Supplies needed: catalog, CAPP report, block schedule planner, newspaper course bulletin, course registration form, pencil.

Step1.

Find the grid for your major in the catalog of the year you entered the U of S.

Step2.

Cross off each course you have successfully completed.

Step3.

Check your CAPP report. Is it accurate? Fill in the courses you are currently taking.

Step4.

Make a list of courses that you should take (according to the catalog) in the next semester. Also include courses you need to repeat. Remember your writing intensive and diversity requirements.

NOTE: Always take specified COGNATE and MAJOR courses in the semester they are listed. Other courses frequently have flexibility, in terms of when you take them.

Step5.

Check course descriptions in the catalog. Are there pre or co -requisites for any of the courses you are planning to take.

Step6.

Prioritize the list as follows: major, cognate, courses which are offered only one semester or the other, sequential courses, electives.

Step7.

In the course bulletin, mark all the available sections of the courses you need.

Step8.

Starting with your highest priority courses, begin to create a schedule on the block schedule form. You will always need to have alternate sections or courses selected as you may not get into your first choice(s).

Step9.

Transfer your schedule plan onto the course registration form. Be certain to list your alternate choices.
