The junior and senior year is when the students do the thesis grade
research in order to graduate. Junior year provides all majors with
two courses, Chemistry Literature and Writing and Seminar, both which
prepares them for their thesis defense at the end of their senior
year. Also included in these two years are Instrumental Analysis, Organic
Chemistry III for the Biochemistry and Chemistry majors, a form of
Physical Chemistry, and a Chemistry
Elective Course. All these course help construct skills needed
to do the student's research project in the senior year.
This course discusses the instrumental methods of analysis consisting of theory and application of such instrumental techniques as spectroscopy, polarography, and instrumental titrimetry. The accompanying laboratory course contains experiments involving experiments involving application of modern chemical instrumentation and techniques to quantitative analysis.
This course investigates the published source material of chemical science and industry. The course includes practical instruction in library technique and in the written reporting of results which will be needed for research.
This course develops the communicative skills that student needs to present his or her thesis paper at the end of their senior year. Current topics in chemistry, biochemistry, and industrial chemistry are prepared and presented by the students.
