Matthew Dunn will begin his first season as head coach of The University of Scranton volleyball program in 2008.
He replaces Jud Holdredge, who retired in May after leading the Royals to an
overall record of 141-76 (.650) in six seasons, including two Freedom
Conference titles in Scranton’s previous affiliation with the Middle Atlantic
States Collegiate Athletic Corporation and two NCAA Division III tournament
appearances.
For
the past two seasons, Dunn has served as an assistant boys’ volleyball coach at
his high school alma mater, Lake Lehman, and as an assistant men’s basketball coach at
Luzerne County Community College.
In his senior year at Lake Lehman
in 2001, he was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the Wyoming Valley
Conference and the PIAA District II tournament and was selected all-state. The Knights also posted an overall record of
66-1 during his playing career.
Dunn holds two degrees from Misericordia University, a Bachelor of Science degree
in marketing and a master’s degree in organizational management. While
an undergraduate, he was a member of the men’s swim team and was the recipient
of McAuley Leadership and Partners in Business awards.
Since February 2007, Dunn has served on the
sports committee for the Misericordia’s Alumni Association Board of Directors. A native of Shavertown,
Pennsylvania, he has played USA club volleyball with a team from Binghamton, New York, and
is currently a member of a USA
club volleyball team from the Philadelphia Area.
