BLACKBOARD GETTING STARTED
Overview
of Training
- Test Courses
have been setup in Blackboard to be used for training purposes and for a one
week period from the training. After that point these courses will automatically
be deleted from Blackboard.
- When Faculty
are ready to have a course setup in Blackboard, they need to fill-out a web
form (http://academic.uofs.edu/department/atc/courseinfo3.html)
supplying pertinent information about the course to be taught such as Name
and CRN.
Availability of Blackboard
- Software Upgrades
- will be done in August and late December.
Course Enrollment - How do students get enrolled in courses?
- One initial
Batch Upload from Banner for Course Enrollment will automatically take place
by the Blackboard Administrator SEVEN DAYS before the semester begins.
During the "Add Period" Blackboard class rosters will be updated daily. Therefore,
faculty will never have to manually enroll students into their course.
Add/Drop Period
- Add Period
- A Blackboard Administrator will automatically enroll all students into Blackboard.
This will be done automatically every day during the first week of each semester.
After this period faculty will have to contact a Blackboard Administrator
to get students enrolled into their course in Blackboard.
- Drop Period
- Faculty are responsible for manually DELETING students who drop their course.
CAUTION:
Faculty are responsible for comparing Blackboard class rosters with rosters received
from the Registrar's Office. Please verify a student's enrollment with the
Registrar's Office BEFORE deleting them from Blackboard because all information
pertaining to that student will be deleted permanently.
Faculty Passwords
- Username – email address (i.e., smithj1)
- Password - Social Security Number plus two-digit day of birth
The
se are the default
passwords; they can and should be changed after you access the system.
Student
Passwords
- Username – email address (i.e., smithj1)
- Password - Social Security Number plus two-digit day of birth
Students should change their passwords (or other personal information).
END OF SEMESTER ROLLOVER
There is an end
of semester process that must take place so that the appropriate courses are
made available to students and faculty for the following semester. Three weeks
before the end of the semester an Email message will be sent to all faculty
asking them to fill out an End of Semester Course Rollover online web form indicating
what courses they need in Blackboard for future semesters. This form will only
be available for a limited period of time before each semester and can be found
at: http://www.scranton.edu/bb
- Click on Information
- Click on Course Rollover
NOTE: Make no assumptions that your course will be available for the next semester unless you have completed the online web form.
- Faculty
fill-out the online web form indicating which courses are needed for each
semester
- Fill-out
the form if you want to use a course from a previous semester
- Fill-out
the form if you have a student with an Incomplete grade and need to have
the course available for that student
- All courses
will be RENAMED to reflect the current year, semester and CRN as per faculty
request provided via the Course Rollover web form.
- Enrollment
for each course within Blackboard will be deleted before the next semester
begins except for courses that faculty indicate have to remain because of
students receiving "Incompletes". Faculty will remain enrolled in their
course. When students are deleted from a course all of their work associated
with their name is deleted.
- Administrators
will archive all courses from Blackboard including student information in
each course.
ALL OTHER COURSES - all courses will be available to faculty at all times. To best see these
courses, click the Courses tab. The Course ID will indicate when the course was used.
SETTING UP A COURSE AND ACCESSING COURSES IN BLACKBOARD
To access a course - when you first login you will see the names of ALL the courses you have in
Blackboard, regardless of the semester they were offered. From this screen
you cannot see the Course ID indicating which semester the course was taught.
Use the Courses tab to see the Course Names and Course IDs.
TO
CREATE A COURSE
- Log into UIS
using your User ID and PIN
- Click on Faculty
& Advisors
- Click on Blackboard
Instructor Course Request
- Select the
Term for which you want to request a course and click on Submit
Term
- Please type
the CRN or CRNs for each course in the field(s) provided. Please use one line/field
for each course
- Click on Submit_Course_Request(s)

ACCESS YOUR COURSE

tab once you access Blackboard - there will be more information available
about your courses in this view.
